Jeffrey T. Guterman received his B.A. in psychology from Boston University in 1980, his M.S. in counseling psychology from Nova Southeastern University in 1985, his M.S. in family therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 1991, and his Ph.D. in family therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 1992. He received personal psychotherapy, training, and supervision in rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) from REBT's founder Albert Ellis. After receiving his doctorate in family therapy, he shifted to a solution-focused approach to counseling. Guterman is a licensed mental health counselor in Florida. Since 1985, he has worked in various clinical settings, including community mental health centers, hospitals, managed care, and private practice. He was an Adjunct Instructor at Nova Southeastern University in 1992 and a Core Instructor at the New York Institute of Technology, Florida Center from 1994 to 2001. In 2004, he accepted a position as Assistant Professor in the Counseling Department of the Adrian Dominican School of Education at Barry University. He has served on editorial and advisory boards, including the Journal of Mental Health Counseling and the Journal of Counseling & Development. He was associate editor of the Journal of Mental Health Counseling from 1997 to 2000. He has presented symposiums and workshops at international, national, and state conferences. Guterman is the author of over 100 publications, including the 2006 book, Mastering the art of solution-focused counseling published by the American Counseling Association. Guterman currently resides in Bal Harbour, Florida.
